For Kassandrah Banks, Equal Parts Sunning, Running and Working Prior to Final Year

In her own words: “My summer started off with a cruise to Key West, Florida and Cozumel, Mexico where we rented bikes, went snorkeling, and relaxed on the beach. Since I got back I’ve been working two jobs for nearly 40 hours a week and continuing my summer training for this upcoming cross country season. I just completed my first half-marathon, which was a lot of fun. The half marathon was right along the beach in Fairfield. Other than working and running I like reading, hiking, watching movies, and spending my summer outside with my family, friends, and my two dogs.”

Last year: A Wethersfield native and senior-to-be, Kassandrah ran cross country, indoor, and outdoor track & field for the third straight year, earning Little East Conference All-Academic honors each season. Hard training in the summer of 2016 paid dividends, as she was among the cross country’s top three runners as a junior last fall. She finished in the top 18 percent (15th of 85) in the Little East Conference Championships (after finishing tenth overall on the team as a sophomore) and among the top 33 percent (133 of 406) in the New England Division III Regional Championships (second overall on the team). As a team tri-captain in track, Kassandrah earned All-Little East and All-New England Alliance honors a total of six times at 5,000 meters and with the 4x800 meter relay and ran a leg on the 4x800 meter relay which set a program record of 9:54.89 at the New England Division III Championships… attained her personal goal of a sub-20:00 in the 5,000 with a winning time of 19:18.10 in Eastern’s home track meet, then set a PR of 19:15.66 in placing second in the LEC Championships eight days later… in her first season of eligibility, Kassandrah was awarded a E-Club Outstanding Scholar-Athlete Award (3.50+ cumulative GPA).

More about Kassandrah: She is a New Media Studies major and Sport & Leisure Management minor who ran four seasons of outdoor track and also competed in cross country, indoor track and basketball at Wethersfield HS… earned All-Academic recognition all four years… sister Breanna and brother Tristen both attended Central Connecticut State University last year… last fall, she interned with the Eastern broadcasting team, which produces live broadcasts of most all of Eastern’s home athletic events throughout the year… as part of her internship, she co-produced and edited a Warrior Profile video package on teammate Mariah McPhee…
