Baseball – Report # 10
Jordan Muchin, Jr., West Hartford
Junior righty Jordan Muchin (West Hartford) pitched a complete-game eight-hit shut in a 2-0 first-game win in the Warriors' sweep of the University of Southern Maine Saturday in winning the honor for the second time this year. The shutout was his second of the season and made him the first pitcher in program history to record a nine-inning shutout at Southern Maine. Muchin, who has a 5-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio this year, fanned seven without a walk, hit one batter, and did not allow an extra-base hit. In ten starts this year, Muchin is 4-4 with a 3.34 ERA (fifth in the LEC), an LEC-high 63 strikeouts and 12 walks in an LEC-high 64 2/3 innings.
Anthony Stigler, Fr., OF, Mansfield
Freshman rightfielder Anthony Stigler (Mansfield) had back-to-back games of at least two hits Saturday, going 4-for-8 with two RBI, a run scored and stolen base in a Little East Conference doubleheader road sweep of the University of Southern Maine which gave the Warriors the No. 2 seed in the upcoming LEC tournament. In a 3-1 week, Stigler led the team with a .500 on-base percentage (7-for-14) and shared the team lead with a .417 batting average (5-for-12). An outfield starter in all 36 games this year, Stigler is second this year on the team with seven multiple-RBI games and third with 11 multiple-hit games and is third on the squad with 13 stolen bases (in 15 tries).
Stigler won the honor for the second straight week and third time this year.
No. 2 seed Eastern (22-14) opens play in the six-team, double-elimination LEC tournament Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. against No. 5 Plymouth State University.
