WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – Eastern Connecticut State University junior third baseman Alex Parkos (Meriden) has repeated as a selection to the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division III All-New England Region baseball team in 2018, announced today. The team is voted upon by members of the American Baseball Coaches' Association (ABCA) and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Division III All-America Committee, chaired by Eastern head coach Matt LaBranche.
A second-team All-New England pick as a sophomore and a first-team All-Little East Conference repeater at third base this year, Parkos was ranked third this year in the Little East in RBI (43) and 12th in hits (51) – giving him three straight 50+ hit seasons. In addition to RBI and hits, Parkos this year led the Warriors in total bases (80), multiple-hit games (16), and multiple-RBI games (13) and was second doubles (11), home runs (6) and runs (36).
The right-handed power hitter started all 41 games, 38 at third base and 38 in the No. 3 spot in the order. He reached base in 13 straight games at one point during the season and had hits in 31 games, drove in five runs once and four runs three times. In his second season at third base after spending 2016 as DH, Parkos never commited more than one error in a game, commiting only two errors in the final 18 games, none in five conference tournament games on ten chances.
On Monday, Parkos was also named to the D3baseball.com All-New England Region third team, the team being selected for the seventh time.
Eastern closed out its fifth season under LaBranche with a 25-16 overall record, 10-4 in the Little East and reached the championship round for the 12th time in the 22-year history of the tournament.
