Senior forward Alex Kallgren of Dudley, MA had a hand in five of Eastern’s eight goals in two Little East Conference wins by scoring four and assisting on another as the Warriors moved two games over .500 in conference play with one LEC regular-season match remaining. After scoring an insurance goal in a 3-1 mid-week win over visiting Fitchburg State University, Kallgren recorded the second hat trick of her career in a 5-4 victory over conference leader Keene State College on the road Saturday. Against Keene, which hadn’t allowed as many as five goals in an LEC match in 12 years, Kallgren assisted on the first goal in the sixth minute, made it 3-0 in the 16th minute, and 4-1 five minutes before halftime before potting the most important goal of the match to re-store a two-goal lead with 15 minutes left with her eighth goal of the year. It was the first multi-goal game of the year for Kallgren.
Kallgren is Eastern’s all-time leader in goals (37) and points (93), and needs three points to additionally break the career assist record of 21.
In contention to host a first-round LEC match for the second time in three seasons as one of the top four finishers in the 12-team conference, Eastern (7-6, 6-4 LEC) enters the final two weeks of the season in fifth place, a half-game back of Westfield State, whose remaining games are against the top two teams in the conference: Eastern hosts Bridgewater State in its final LEC regular-season match of the season Saturday at noon. Bridgewater is two games back of Eastern in the LEC standings, at 4-6.
