SALEM, Mass. -- The Eastern Connecticut State University men's lacrosse team spread around the scoring in Saturday's 19-4 Little East Conference victory over Salem State University, with 13 players recording a goal and 19 contributing a point .
With two conference matches remaining, Eastern (8-5, 4-1 Little East) remains a game behind leader Keene State College, which routed visiting University of Southern Maine, 18-2, Saturday. Also winning and remaining a game behind Eastern were Plymouth State University and the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, which defeated UMass Boston and Western Connecticut State University, respectively.
The top two finishers in the final conference standings are awarded first-round byes in the playoffs, which get underway with two first-round matches April 29. The two-time defending playoff champion Warriors host Western Connecticut Tuesday and Plymouth State Saturday in their remaining regular-season contests.
In defeating Salem State (3-10, 1-3 Little East) for the 13th time in this 13-game series, Eastern outshot the Vikings by better than 2-to-1 and won 17 of 26 faceoffs.
Two-time senior All-America Mike Devine (Cheshire) and sophomore Tim Reilly (Hanover, MA) each scored three and junior Zach Thresher (Somers) and sophomore Michael Dellanno (Wakefield, MA) combined for five assists. Freshman Quincy Pecora (North Haven) won ten of 15 faceoffs to improve his season percentage to .557 (49 of 88), and freshman Kent Tiden (Old Saybrook) was credited with his first career point. Tiden scored his first goal midway through the fourth quarter.
