Men's Soccer: Warriors Brush Away Recent Road Losses to UMD, Post LEC Shutout

DARTMOUTH, Mass. --  Junior Max Parent (Yarmouth, MA) netted a goal and an assist in his second start of the season as the Eastern Connecticut State University men's soccer team put behind it four straight shutout losses on the field of the University of Masssachusetts Dartmouth in 3-0 Little East Conference men's soccer victory Saturday afternoon at Cressy Field.

Juniors Griffin Luczek (Lee, NH) and Justin Jensen (Wethersfield) scored 13 minutes apart to give Eastern (6-1-0, 1-1-0) a two-goal halftime cushion, and Parent put the game out of reach with his second goal of the year ten minutes into the second half. UMass (0-6-1, 0-1-1 LEC) had beaten Eastern, 1-0, in each of the last four meetings between the teams at Cressy Field dating back seven years.

Luczek gave the Warriors the only goal they would need 13 minutes into action with his team-leading sixth goal of the year on feeds from Parent and sophomore David Noel (Armonk, NY), and Jensen extended that margin to 2-0 in the 27th minute after converting passes from junior Sam Hurlburt (Cornwall) and freshman Joel Richards (Bridgeport).

Parent closed out Eastern's scoring in the 56th minute on a feed from freshman Will Toomey (Willington). Senior Ryan Murphy (Cromwell) took care of the rest in net by making one save to earn his 15th shutout in 61 career starts and lowering his goals-against average to 1.11.

Eastern hosts Western Connecticut in a Little East Conference clash Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Thomas Nevers Field.
