Women's Lacrosse: Warriors Never Trail to Down Whitman for First Win of Season

Junior goalie Jessica Purick made eight saves for her first collegiate win and the Warriors never trailed in recording their first win of the season, 14-11, against Whitman College Tuesday evening at Carmalita Park in Punta Gorda, FL. Katie Calnen (pictured) had three ground balls and eight different players contributed at least one goal -- with seniors Maggie Bodington and Allison Wylie each netting a hat trick. Eastern broke the second and final tie with three goals - junior Michelina Pinto giving Eastern the lead for good, 7-6, with three minutes left in the first half, and freshman Katlyn Molony and senior Jenna Glynn scoring seven minutes apart early in the second half to make it 9-6. Molony won four draws and first-year sophomore Tristan Kijak three for the Warriors, who played without top scorer Alyssa Powers, a sophomore. Whitman (WA) is a fourth-year program picked to finish second in the Northwest Conference. Eastern faces SUNY Geneseo Thursday at 2 p.m. at Ross Park in Port Charlotte before opening its home season Saturday, March 24 with a non-conference match against Framingham State at the Mansfield Outdoor Complex.
