WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- Freshman Brooke Matyasovsky (Orange) hit her second home run in two games and drove in all three runs to back the combined shutout pitching of Morgan Bolduk (Vernon) and Morgan Sanson (Thomaston) in Eastern Connecticut State University's 3-0 softball win over the College of Wooster Friday afternoon at Diamondplex.
Matyasovsky, who slammed a three-run home run – the first of her career --in the eighth inning of Thursday's 13-8, eight-inning win over the University of New England, drove the first run against Wooster (3-4) with a two-out single to center, then drilled a two-run blast to left with two out in the fifth to provide insurance.
Matyasovsky had two of Eastern's seven hits, as did Bolduk (6-0) who won her fifth straight start. Bolduk gave up three hits while fanning two and walking one and departed after five innings with a 3-0 lead. Sanson faced seven batters to record the save, aided by a game-ending 6-4-3 double play. The lefty gave up one hit, struck out one and walked one.
Bolduk led off the third inning with a walk and move to third on successive sacrifice bunts before Matyasovsky laced the first pitch she saw from losing pitcher Olivia Johnson (1-0) into center.
Bolduk singled to open the fifth, move to second on a Alexis Tyrrell's (Torrington) second sacrifice bunt of the game, and rode home on Matyasovsky two-run blast.
