For the second time in a week, sophomore Haley Knox of Bristol broke the women’s indoor program record at 1,000 meters at the University of Rhode Island’s Coaches Tribute Invitational Feb. 4. Knox, who entered Saturday’s meet having established a record-setting time of 3:16.77 Jan. 28 at Springfield College in her first attempt this season at that distance, clipped nearly four seconds off that mark with a time of 3:13.16 which placed her 19th in a field of 27 at URI. She was the second Division III athlete in the race.
Knox had run the 1,000 three times indoors as a freshman, with her time of 3:23.79 her previous best until breaking the record for the first time this year at Springfield. A mathematics major, Knox is also a two-year member of the cross country program and qualified for the Little East Conference All-Academic Team in her first season of eligibility this past fall.
