DUDLEY, Mass. – Juniors Abby Stern (Manchester) and Lauren Notholt (Milford) and sophomore Anna Barry (Andover) combined for a .407 attack percentage and senior Mckenzie Maneggia (Andover) and sophomore Meg Verizzi (Lebanon) combined for 19 service aces to power the Eastern Connecticut State University women's volleyball team to season-opening three-set sweeps of host Nichols College and Mitchell College Saturday at Chalmers Field House.

Maneggia served the first seven points of the match against Nichols (0-1) – three on service aces – as the Warriors posted 25-17, 25-14, 25-13 wins. Maneggia repeated that performance in the opening set against Mitchell (0-1) – opening with two service aces -- and  junior Alaetra Long (Lincoln, NE) accounted for three of the next five points with kills in a 25-8, 26-16, 27-25 victory.

Eastern is now a combined 11-0 all-time against Nichols and Mitchell, winning in 33 straight sets.

Stern led Eastern on the day with 17 kills and a .457 attack percentage, Barry adding 16 kills and a .333 attack percentage and Notholt ten kills and a .444 attack percentage. Long contributed 14 kills with a .270 attack percentage and a team-high 25 digs.

Maneggia had 40 assists and eight service aces and Verizzi 11 service aces and 15 digs. Verizzi did not commit an error on a team-high 35 serves. Against Mitchell, ten of Verizzi's 21 serves resulted in aces. The total was just two off the record for aces in a three-set match, which Maneggia shares.

On the first day of their collegiate careers, freshman Nayeli Cruz Martinez (Toa Baja, P.R.) had eight kills and five digs and freshman setter Abby Fletcher (Fenton, MI) 19 assists and six digs.

Eastern competes at the Trinity College Invitational this weekend, facing the host Bantams in Friday's opener at 6 p.m.
